D3crypt3d has released a new free beta of Polyport, its application designed to help artists protect their copyrighted 3D assets. The new version includes support for Blender and Maya as well as a completely revamped UI. Polyport works by encrypting 3D assets so that they require a password when opened by a user. In addition it tracks who and when a file is unencrypted, and if unauthorised users try to access a file it displays a calling card. Find out more and download the free beta from the D3crypt3d website.
I looked through their website….read the User Guide trying to find out how much control you have with an asset being edited in it’s native format. All I found was this statement
“Maya will launch with a limited capability set, and allow you to make edits and then send them back to the file creator.”
I think it would be useful to tell the potential users of this product in detail… what aspects of the “control limits” the owner has over the native program when someone else opens the file.
i’m not sure if it works safely? when you can export the file you don’t have control of the exported file. when you can manipulate the mesh you can make a custom manipulator that also exports the mesh. 3d tools warn’t designed internally that the data is crypted and with checksum checked if the functions aren’t manipulated.
well they are still in BETA so they have some time to optimize the marketing and the software. i wish good luck!
