is light mixer really that much different than the light select render element already available in vray?

like the denoiser render element, a “light mixer” render element should be composed from several contribuites (light pass, shadow pass, specular, normal etc) so, pumping values up and down, you have a right light behaviour in the scene

I can find information on OSL but I can’t really find any practical examples of its use. Why would someone use OSL? Is it a niche market kind of thing?
