David Venables has released a script that saves out an image of the frame buffer as it’s rendering an image. This script is useful for example in instances when you are rendering large images and are afraid of a potential crash.
If a crash happens you’ll at least have an image of how it looked before it crashed and allows you resume by attempting to render the missing parts using region render. In some scenarios you might even be able to hide geometry that is not needed anymore and render out the rest of the image. Read a little write-up of the script by Jamie Cardoso and download David Venables’ script on Jamie’s blog.
