Unreal
Epic Games has announced that Unreal Engine 4.23 will add support for Cinema 4D. The ability to import .c4d files will be handled by the Datasmith plugin which is included in Unreal Studio Beta (currently free). The importer supports scene hierarchies, geometry, materials, lights, cameras, and baked animations and using Cinema 4D’s ‘save for Cineware’ option allows users to bake procedural motion graphics directly into real-time scenes through the Unreal Engine Sequencer cinematic editor. Blender
Ubisoft has announced they have joined the Blender Foundation’s Development Fund as a corporate Gold member - listed on the Blender Dev Fund page at €30K/year. Not only that, and perhaps more significantly, they also announced that Ubisoft Animation Studio, which is a department of Ubisoft Film and Television, will also use Blender for their productions and assign developers to contribute to Blender’s open-source projects. Witold Jaworski released an updated version of his free book about coding add-ons for Blender, bringing it up to date with Blender 2.80. According to the the author "the book contains a practical introduction to the Blender Python API. It describes the process of writing a new add-on. Tech & Research
Disney Research has published a new paper that describes a technique to improve the control of interpolations in animation by allowing for the viewport manipulation of positions and orientations over time and extending inverse kinematics without adding new keyframes. It works with existing animation curves and therefore integrates with existing pipelines. Watch a demo on YouTube and read the paper on Disney's research website.
