Upon inquiry, Thinkbox’s Chris Bond kindly provided us with the following answer regarding the $400+ difference in price between the Max and C4D versions of Krakatoa:
“Pricing wise, we priced it based on what we perceive as the value because there are things missing. PDV, Magma, Explorer tools, Particle Deformations, APME, Environment Reflections, Raytraced Reflections, Shadows On Geometry, Atmospheric effect aren’t in the current version of Krakatoa C4D. Once we release a version that is feature equivalent with Max and Maya, price will be equivalent.”
“This brings up an interesting point though, would users want a limited Max version for a similar price?”
If you’d be interested in seeing a Max version of Krakatoa for $595 with the following features, feel free to leave your comments on this news item.
Note: we would like to thank Robert Seidel for raising the question about the price difference between Krakatoa for Max and C4D.

I think Bobo also said the price difference was also a result of the work done by Ugly Kids Studios, who started with the development of the bridge way before Thinkbox got on board.
That also make sense, since the Krakatoa Render (MX, MY, C4D, SR) costing $ 495 … making the bridge only costing $ 100.
Anyway … I think it’s fair for now. But I need to see the presentations of Bobo on Krakatoa for C4D to see if it’s worth it (more cheap with less features).

I consider these videos a pre-requisite to the Webinars on April 23 and 24th 🙂
I would like to mention that Krakatoa MX v1.0 was $495. That was before it had Magma, Voxel mode, Atmospherics, PDV, Raytraced reflections etc. We raised the price in v1.5 when Magma and Voxels were first introduced. But we also kept the Evaluation (license-free) mode of Krakatoa MX which gives you nearly everything needed to learn it or use with other Thinkbox products, minus the Atmospheric effect, a few PFlow Bonus operators, network rendering, and plus the watermark at resolutions above 480×360. Note that neither KMY nor KC4D provide such Evaluation mode!
