3d-io have been hard at work. The Wiesbaden-based company announced the open beta of UV-Packer, a new UV map packing and auto-rescaling plug-in for Max. Using 3d-io’s Unwrella plugin technology, UV-Packer takes all your UV parts, calculates their sizes and proportions and distributes them in the most optimal way on the UV panel while providing uniform pixel distribution. A fully functional beta version of UV-Packer can be downloaded from Packer.3D-Plugin.com. 3d-io have also posted a video preview of Unwrella 2, the upcoming release of their plugin dedicated to unwrapping 3D models with a single mouse click. Unwrella 2 will feature support for user-specified seam placement. Last but not least, 3d-io have disclosed details of Flatiron, a four steps Render To Texture plugin capable of baking entire scenes or selections of objects into a single UV Map. Flatiron is currently in open beta and can be downloaded from Flatiron.3D-Plugin.com.
