Thinkbox is slowly beginning to show us hints of their latest plugin release for 3DS Max named ‘Xmesh’. Xmesh allows you to mesh out objects/animated objects and read them back in as a cache file. In a written SIGGRAPH preview from Thinkbox, they say, “…it’s the missing piece of the puzzle for krakatoa/frost/fathom and the entire particle-based-workflow that we are evolving. It’s more than just a file format or caching tool – it’s the centerpiece of an entire pipeline.” More at Thinkbox’s website.
