Maxdepth has announced a new commercial online course about using photogrammetry for visual effects. It includes over 4 hours of video and all the project files so users can follow along. The training uses Reality Capture, ZBrush, Maya and V-Ray for rendering. The course costs $89.99 and you can find out more pm Maxdepth's website.

Cebas has announced the latest update to Final Render, its hybrid CPU and GPU renderer. Earlier this year Cebas updated Final Render to take full advantage of CPU and GPU hardware when rendering in addition to reductions in GPU memory usage of up to 50% and 25% improvements in processing time. In Drop 2, released today, Cebas has improved speed improvements still further and extended the hybrid system with a new biased light cache it calls biasHybrid, which combines bias and unbiased techniques in a single light cache.  (more...)

E-ON Software has updated VUE and PlantFactory with several new features.  For both tools, materials are now compatible with PBR workflows including a tool to convert materials from a specular to a metal/roughness workflow and Substance is now supported with a selection of materials included. The UV mapping algorithm for vegetation has been improved the it is now possible to export procedural materials baked to UV and UDIM maps.  (more...)
