Researchers reconstruct house in ancient Pompeii using CG

Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have combined archaeology with CG to reconstruct a house in Pompeii to its original state before the volcano eruption of Mount Vesuvius thousands of years ago. The city district was scanned during field work in 2011–2012 and the first 3D models of the ruin city have now been completed. More on Lund University's website.

VRto.me is a new site by Stanley Brusse designed to quickly convert cubemaps into panorama tours. It allows you to add hotspots, get links to your projects and easily share your VR work with your clients by creating VR tours in a few clicks, which can be viewed with VR headsets or web browser. VRto.me works well with V-Ray, Corona, Octane, FStorm and any other renderer that can render cubemaps. Payment is required to remove watermarks and access certain features. More on VRto.me.

Next Limit’s Maxwell 4 shipping

The latest version of Next Limit's renderer brings GPU rendering (on NVidia graphic cards with CUDA support), Multilight standalone, revamped material gallery, Rhino for Mac support, improved Revit integration, etc. The Madrid-based company has implemented licensing changes that now allow to choose only one integration plugin for use with a 3D application when purchasing Maxwell, and requires to pay for extra ones (previously all integration plugins were available to Maxwell owners). The changes resulted in numerous complaints from users, which Next Limit is trying to address by giving those who are upgrading from previous versions 2 licenses per upgrade. (more...)
