Planetside Software has released v4 of its landscape creation and rendering software. The company has updated its website with a detailed description of the changes brought by the new version, which include a realtime ray-traced preview, realistic cloud shading model, enhanced atmosphere model, lens effects, improved render times, animation features for all versions, new and improved shaders, object sequence capabilities, etc. (more...)

V-Ray’s implementation of the Anders Langlands’ alSurface shader

Chaos Group has posted a blog entry that discusses V-Ray’s implementation of the Anders Langlands’ uber-shader, also known as the Arnold alSurface shader. This shader allows users to recreate most surfaces including, solids, metal, transparent, reflective, and even Sub Surface Scattering such as skin. Vue 2016 preview

(Updated) Vue 2016 will bring a new terrain modeling technology called "Heightfield Terrains", which allows to add effects such as hydrological and thermal simulations. Heighfield terrains are significantly faster to render, manually sculptable and their parameters can be animated (it's possible to simulate terrain erosion over time, for example). Wacom MobileStudio Pro

Wacom has announced the MobileStudio Pro 13 and 16, the newest members in its line of touch-enabled pen displays. The portable displays run on Windows 10, include 3d scanning cameras, and can run full desktop versions of graphics software, like Photoshop and ZBrush, at up to 4K display resolution.
