They have fixed most of the big gaps that Adobe fanboys would point to…

1. Hardwareacceleration in Windows.
2. IDML import..
3. Packaging
4. Linked and also embedded Files from…. wherever, you name it.
5. fill and Patternlayer.

and the list goes on..

Only thing my architectural Company would still like.. plus…
– More customers, so external companys would accept easy, to cooperate also on affinit products to usse them.. (would be an acceptance tipping point)
– and very architectural specific…
the option not only to import pdfs as linked layers, but also to import them as rasterised layers, which are by far easier to modify, because architectural plans have often more but 50000 Lines.. but they as photoshop would still have to be linked, so while improving our architectural plans, colleques could just save new versions of your floorplans for example into the same folder you used for our affinity file, and plans would update automatical..
a very very strong workflow advantage of photoshop at the moment ..

other than this a real great suit..

The one feature it’s missing is a Text Warp Tool… I own both photo and designer and it’s a promised feature sorely missed. Other than that, absolutely love the suite.

Linked and embedded was horrific in Affinity Photo, it was pretty much useless in comparison to how smart objects work in Photoshop. I’ll have to open it up and see how well they improved it. I purchased the suite some time ago, it suffered in this area so I can’t use it until it’s at least on par.

But even if I can use it, I’d still be stuck on Adobe until ALL of the clients moved away from it, which will probably not happen for years, if at all.

we said that for quark xpress back in the day, but Indesign took the market in few year because the software was more flexible and pleasant to work with.
Also,Competition is always good.

Quark Xpress was horrible during the short period I had to use it. InDesign printed out what everything looked like on the screen without any fuss. QE, I recall constantly printing tests to make sure the spacing looked right. The amount of users back then was also miniscule compared to what exists today, it’s easier to change over when there are fewer users to comply with.

Well. as i understand, smartobjects don´t exist in Affinity.. Just because you dont need them..

What ever you put in to affinity.. i will behave as an smartobject.. so an imported photo.. doesnt first have to be converted to a smartobject. Its original data will not be destroyed.. and filterlayers are nondistructiv allways..

as far as i can say, embedded or linked objects now work fine.

It’s using linked or embedded objects like Smart Objects in PS where Affinity Photo was pretty lackluster. Will have to see how well the liquify has been improved as well. Saving out a deformed grid to use elsewhere is pretty handy, or deforming a linked/embedded document that has changed. I could never figure out a good way in AP. Hopefully I’ll have time this weekend to dive in and see how everything has been improved.
