Autodesk to tap merchandising market with 3D toy primitves

According to rumors, Autodesk would be in talks with 3D printer developer MakerBot to produce a line of toys made out of 3D primitives. Real-life sized versions of the chamfer box, the sphere, and the teapot are expected to be among the first prototypes to be tested on children. In addition to the new commercial strategy, selling toys with shapes of 3D primitives to children 1-3 years of age could familiarize them with Autodesk and help them adopt Autodesk’s software in the future. If the move proves to be successful the next line of 3D toys would include keyframes and modifiers.
Ha ha, awesome!
The sad thing is I’d actually buy these.
Well played, MU.
I guess the will release a toy viewcube first..
I can’t see much “toy” in a chamfer box or a teapot, to the contrary look at the viewcube: it was introduced to the world as toy in the first place …
Maybe they had this hidden merchandising plan since than already. Would fit to the other Autodesk’s feature development timescales…
I want a real-life sized Biped.
It is fascinating i was for a while not able to differ this news from a 1 April joke. In my wild fantasy i was really thinking it is serious.
This is a sad condition 🙁
Should have gone with Fisher-price adopting the Autodesk UI for their Activity Centre…
@Nik: thanks, glad you liked it. Don’t say that too loud, or we may start seeing these for real.
@Spacefrog: the viewcube toy is an excellent idea. Maybe an origami version would fit the new aesthetics better.
@Marius: granted.
@Igor: great to know we could trick you this time! We have already a couple of funny ones lined up for next time, so we’re already waiting for the next April 1st.
@Steve: Ha ha! That’s a great one!
