Canon announced the upcoming release of the new 5D Mark III DSLR camera, which addresses several performance issues of the previous Mark II model and is bound to make a splash once again in the independent filmmaking scene. Highlights of the new model include:
– Intraframe video compression
– A two-stop performance improvement in low-light
– Onboard chromatic aberration compensation
– HDR shooting mode
– Multiple exposures continuous shooting mode – with ability to save source images, which will no doubt sooner than later be taken advantage of by third party firmware
– Dual memory card slots (SD and CompactFlash)
– A headphone jack for monitoring audio levels while filming
– Significantly reduced rolling-shutter effect and moire artifacts in video
The camera is expected to be available at the end of March at a SRP of $3499. Read a preview at DPReview and find out more at Canon.
