Do Brazil users have any suggestions as to where to go? I’ve demo’d vray and Final Render (although it’s difficult to judge things through that heavy water mark).
It’s just another big investment to make, and I still don’t think these renderers are actually better.
Well, if you’ve been a hardcore Brazil user you will miss a lot of its straght-forward approach, flexibility and stability with every other engine.
Not saying that the others are bad, not at all, but I’ve worked with fRender and Vray and always enjoyed coming back to Brazil and avoided working in any other engine as much as I could.
Vray’s materials and especially lights will feel a bit unflexible, but GI will be faster (not brute-force, this will be a lot slower).
fRender’s materials and lights will feel more familiar, GI will feel slower and ‘flatter’, while the general flexibility (ray visibilities and such) will be similar to Brazil’s.
Both will have better or at least more flexible render element support.
…and then there’s the (very important) question if you like the ‘look’ of the renderer. I found that none of the above mentioned will hold up to Brazil’s very natural look and only MRay and PRMan look similar in this regard (of those engine that I’ve used or have seen in action)
Of course, all of them have their well deserved place, and this is only my personal totally biased opinion 🙂 Rendering is very much like religion I guess…
Thanks, Marcin, that’s just the kind of info I need.
I always like the look of a brazil render and often use brute force for animation. I know what you mean about looking flatter, I thought that, but was not sure if it was just me.
Vray seemed very fast at first try, but it was using caching from the start, and the procedures for animated sequences seemed a real hassle.
Is there any hope for a future version of Brazil, because that’s what I really want.
Well, they’re saying B3 Development is continuing, but it’s going to be an uphill struggle winning back users IMHO.
