Makoto Chiba from MagicPictures Studio is developing an OpenSubdiv implementation for Max that will be compatible with Maya and Mudbox, allowing to export creases to other applications. Watch a sample video on YouTube.
Any improvements over existing TurboSmooth Pro implementation? Or isn’t TS Pro opensubdiv? Maybe this one will be free? ^_^
I wonder until when Max users will depend on third-party or users to develop essential features for Max instead of Autodesk.
Last week it was Houdini Engine, now Open Subdiv. But perhaps in 2016 we may expect a new Quad Chamfer! 😀
@jumanji
I don’t know the detail of TS Pro.
But this plugin is created from native opensubdiv code. So, most of the options, status and result should be exact same as Maya and the others. Except the function that I added for convenience.
Currently, adaptive mode is gray out but I will enable adaptive mode in the future.
Actually, I made this plugin for compatibility with other software mainly.
Of course I expected advantage of GPU mode, but there is a limit of 3dsmax viewport rendering now. So sad…
@amek.ht
In fact, opensubdiv for max should be released by Autodesk. But they don’t do that(at least now).
So, I guess this will be the Max 2016 new feature.
…great news and again:
how is AD not embarrassed? this is a top request since 2011.
basically 3ds max should be open source at this point.
the relevant development is done third party anyway.
Looks pretty similar to TurboSmooth Pro, which also uses Pixar Subdivs. This one seems to have some other interesting options, but I’m mostly interested in how it compares with TS Pro in terms of speed 🙂 And with the uncertainty of 3ds Max plugins, there’s always nice to have an alternative.
@Deck
OpenSubdiv was released in 2012.
How can it be a top request since 2011?
Even Maya got in 2015.
Hey Well.. Long time no talk 😛 Get me on the beta of max please! lol I have bugs i need to report!
