(Updated) The Foundry has made available a page with more details on Modo 901. Version 901 is a major upgrade that brings a comprehensive list of new features. Changes include:
- Advanced hardware-accelerated photorealistic viewport based on Mari technology
- Integrated MeshFusion
- Accelerated performance
- OpenSubdiv library support
- Enhanced modeling toolset
- Improved UV workflows
- Better multi-resolution sculpting
- Extended dynamics and effects – procedural Shatter for shattering
meshes based on collisions, procedural Rock for adding natural-looking
landscape details, dynamic simulations can now be saved and loaded as
separate external cache files, etc. - More flexible rigging
- Easier pipeline integration – new TD SDK offers an easier and
more intuitive interface to the existing Python API for writing
plug-ins. MODO 901 also brings Qt support to Mac OS X and
Windows —already available on Linux— so TDs can make cross-platform
custom UIs. Plus support for OpenVDB voxel datasets and improved workflows with Nuke and Mari. - Complexity management – Deferred Mesh item lets you offload
assets to disk, loading them at render time. Added ability to
mass-convert scene image clips to Tiled EXRs and better ways to expose
only selected inputs in assemblies. - Improved painting and texturing
- Physically based materials and rendering
- Vector-based graphics support
- UI and viewport enhancements

Price will increase from $1,495 to $1,799 (permanent licenses), those interested in purchasing the software can buy 801 now and automatically receive an upgrade to 901 when it becomes available.
