Epic Games has announced The Unreal Fellowship, a 30-day “intensive blended learning experience” that’s aimed at cementing Unreal Engine as part of the future of virtual production. Experienced artists working in film, animation, and VFX are invited to apply, and 50 successful applicants will each be paid $10,000 to cover expenses and loss of earning. Find out more and apply on the Unreal Engine website.
Just take in the contrast:
On the one side you have a company that forced you from owning software to paying them $1600/year to even be able to use it. In some cases even if you purchased perpetual license in past.
On the other side, you have company that is willing to pay you $10000 for a month of your time so that the top industry professionals can directly teach you and mentor you in using their software, which is free to use if you make less than $1M profit with it (About 625 years worth of the Autodesk DCC subscription, assuming 0 inflation).
Clown world we live in indeed 🙂
Just to poke the ridiculousness a little further, for one month learning their free* to use software, Epic is willing to pay you the amount of money AD wants you to pay them for 6.25 years of privilege of use their software 🙂
There has never been a more cancerous company in the CG industry as Autodesk.
