Chaos Group have published an online magazine covering a preview of their upcoming V-Ray 3.0 renderer with Vladimir Koylazov, (Vlado, creator of V-Ray), plus some great interviews with artists from studios like Blur and Factory Fifteen. 3D Printing

OpenFab – programmable 3D printing pipeline architecture

MIT researchers have developed a programmable pipeline for printing multi-material objects that is inspired by RenderMan and modern GPU pipelines. It aims to overcome several computational limitations that current 3D printing technologies face, and will help enable better replication of real objects. OpenFab supports procedural evaluation of geometric detail and material composition, and offers a streaming architecture. Only a small fraction of the final volume is stored in memory and output is fed to the printer with little startup delay. More on MIT's website.

New Position Based Fluids' videos

NVidia's Miles Macklin has posted a number of videos showing recent research the NVidia PhysX team has been doing on GPU-based fluids, including interaction between fluids, rigid bodies and cloth. The slides of the corresponding paper presented at SIGGRAPH have also been made available. More on Miles Macklin's blog.
