3DS New York user group announced

Over the last 15 years, 3DS London has grown to become one of the most popular CG meetup groups in the world. With a record-breaking attendance of 460 people in April, its success can be attributed to a well-planned series of events for 3D artists to get together, discuss ideas, jobs, new technology and present their achievements in a friendly and relaxed environment. Remarkably, it’s also completely free to attend … the catch is, you need to live in (or near) London. That’s about to change with the launch of 3DS New York.

If you’re lucky enough to be NY based, mark the date! The 12 June 2019 is the inaugural meeting 3DS New York at Lucky Jacks in East Village, with a line-up that includes DBOX NYC and more. Future events will take place on the second Wednesday of each month, and speakers are already being booked including Neoscape, Binyan Studios, WeWork, plus many more to be announced closer to the time. If you’d like to present, you can contact the organisers from the meetup page.

As its name suggests, 3DS London started life as a Max user group, but it has recently democratised to welcome members who use every DCC software, (including 3DS Max), plus game engines and other industry tools. Like its London counterpart, 3DS New York continues this aim, appealing to all 3D professionals, enthusiasts and students from New York’s visual effects, visualization, advertising, architectural, animation and interactive industries.

3DS NY will be hosted by James Falconer, a senior visualiser at CookFox Architects in NYC, who contacted the 3DS London team after realising a similar community didn’t exist in New York. He will be helped out by co-organisers Nikos Nikolopoulos from Creative Lighting, Kim Lee a Senior VFX Generalist, and Nigel Hunt the CEO of  SiNi Software who also co-organises 3DS London (alongside Sol Rogers and host Simon Moir).

If you’d like to find out more and sign up for notifications about future events, all the information is on Meetup.
