Until this change, users could upgrade to the latest version of Adobe software if they owned a previous release of the software that was no more than two versions older. With the new policy, users can only upgrade from the previous version, which puts pressure on users to pay on a yearly basis – or switch to a different licensing model. Owners of Adobe Creative Suites would be among the most affected by the change, due to the price of the upgrades.
The move seems aimed at making Adobe’s Creative Cloud offering more appealing. Scott Kelby, president of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, wrote an open letter to Adobe on the issue, which has sparked more than 400 comments from alienated users in just a couple of days. CNet reprinted a response issued by the company.
Happy Holidays everyone!
Love,
Adobe 🙂
I see Adobe just wasn’t happy making $200+ a year per app delivering bug fixes and scrawny “feature” sets. Boy, I miss Macromedia, at least then there was some competition.
Autodesk subscription all over again.
We need a version of this site for companies.

adobe source :
“in the third quarter of fiscal 2010, Adobe achieved record revenue of $990.3 million, compared to $697.5 million reported for the third quarter of fiscal 2009 and $943.0 million reported in the second quarter of fiscal 2010. This represents 42 percent year-over-year revenue growth. Adobe’s third quarter revenue target range was $950 million to $1 billion.”
Always securing to see companies make more profits during crisis….
what if nobody pay the update next year ?…. just imagine… imagine..
I think it is f’k’d personally I use 3 of there products fairly regularly and I upgrade one product every year. For my usage to cost ratio I think that is very reasonable, there new plan not at all reasonable. That is just corporate greed and share-holder panty whapping.
I despise their “ethics” more and more.
But hey “they are too big to fail”
we have 2 Creative Sutes v2. This will be fun to update them one day. In EU they have made it punish Microsoft and even Intel for their vandalizing behaviors few times in the past. Adobe is still small to be a subject for the anti-cartel chamber.
Not to forget the price of Adobe products in Europe is much much higher:
CS Production Premium costs 1699$ (1273€, no tax) in the US right now, while Germany is almost double the price (2099€, no VAT). So even if you don’t want to buy a localized version it’s more than 800€ more!
