Alex Kelley from Imagination Technologies has disclosed further information on the company’s development plans for the Brazil renderer. According to his recent posts at Brazil’s forums the renderer plugins they’re developing for 3D applications are designed “to enhance, not replace existing rendering pipelines (…) We are not duplicating the features, functionality, or user experience of the Brazil 2 r/s offline renderer (…) For example, Neon for Rhino is a plugin that brings a high degree of visual fidelity, including lighting, reflections, shadows, etc. at the earliest stages of modeling and look development of complex 3D. It does not replace the Brazil 2 renderer, or any other renderer for that matter.”
The new statements seem to signal a significant change of policy from Imagination Technologies’ earlier press release from August 9, 2011, which stated:
“Imagination is demonstrating the beta version of its powerful new rendering engine, called Brazil 3.0, to address the next generation of high quality fully interactive ray traced rendering across a broad range of markets from CAD and industrial design through to gaming and cinematic quality content creation. Brazil 3.0 embraces the features and capabilities of a world class renderer, but introduces fully dynamic geometry support enabling full rendering and manipulation of ray traced rendered objects on the fly.”
(…)
“When Brazil 3.0 is released, artists and designers who have built up libraries of shaders and materials based on Brazil RS 2.0 maps and materials will be able to use them in Brazil 3.0, creating a convenient path for users wishing to migrate from the Brazil RS 2.0 renderer to Brazil 3.0 based solutions.”
Brazil users who were expecting a Brazil 3 release with the rendering capabilities mentioned in the press release are reacting to the news with disappointment. More at Brazil’s forums.
