Blackmagic Design keeps moving its flagship grading software into the editing field. Having become widely adopted thanks to the release of a free Lite version in 2011 (which contains most of the functionality of the standard version), the company has been developing the software to transform it into a full-featured editing suite. This latest release comes with many new editing tools, including: multi-camera editing, nested timelines, custom transition curves for transition parameters, on-screen controls to adjust motion paths directly in the timeline viewer, new high performance audio engine, direct export to ProTools, better integration with other editing systems, which allows timelines to “round trip” to other editing software while preserving more settings, plugins, etc.
The software also includes new grading features, such as: match color from one to many clips, accurate 3D perspective tracker, new 3D keyer with improved matte finesse options, etc. The update will be available in July and will be free of charge for all current DaVinci Resolve customers. As with previous releases, a Lite, free version of the software with most of the feature set will also be available. You can find a feature list comparison between the different versions, new features videos and more on Blackmagic Design’s website.
