Two points:

First point;

I hate 3d “stereoscopic” movies. This coming from someone who worked for a 3d camera company for two years.

I ware glasses. Specifically rimless glasses that don’t reduce my field of vision. My glasses are so stealth that I forget I’ve them on. As a glasses wearer you have to put the 3d glasses over your regular pare. This prevents you from snugging the thick black frames close to your face. I want to lose my self in a movie and with the glasses it’s like watching a movie through binoculars.

Putting all that aside the technology just doesn’t work. I hope it just fades away.

Second point;

PLEASE come up with a different name then “3D” to market movies. Sure 3d movies were around before 3d CGI but! We’ve owned the 3D label for 25+ years. note to self (good luck with that).

Clap clap clap (applause). Couldn’t have put it better.

We’ve been extra careful to use the word stereoscopic instead of (or combined with) 3D to avoid that exact confusion of terms.

@othoap

nintendo 3ds does not need glasses to see the effect so most of what you said is irrelevant to the topic

He was discussing stereoscopy. Glasses or no glasses the effect on the eyes is the same.

Check out this review of the 3DS:
“As I finished up this article after playing or watching every last demo Nintendo had available, my astigmatism flared up a bit. Jumping game to game was a bit exhausting, just as it can be in movies. (Literally. I can’t focus on this text as I type it.)”

Like Othoap said, the technology just doesn’t work, at least in its current incarnation. I’m sure we’ll see better imaging developments in the future.
