Competition among renderer developers keeps getting heated. Pixar has released today a free version of its renderer for non-commercial use. The free version is fully featured, without watermark, time limits or other limitations, other than it can only be used for non-commercial purposes.
Renderman is currently available for Maya and Katana. Houdini and Cinema 4D offer well established connectivity to Renderman and are currently being updated. According to Pixar, third-party developers are currently working on compatibility with other 3D applications, including Blender and Lightwave.
Also of note, in order to expand the renderer’s user base, Pixar has also launched a new site dedicated to the software where users can exchange knowledge and resources, showcase their work, find tutorials and more.
