Julie said to scarry things. The first was a Freudian slip and sums up win8’s new design. She meant to say FORM factor but said PHONE factor. The second really distressing point Julie made was. When asked “this is really consumer orientated” what about business users? Her response was “the line between work and home are blurred”. Not for me! My PC is lean and mean I don’t mix business and pleasure.
Were most consumers may like this new direction. I’m worried that it’s a processor/ram hungry window dressing. I just hope like win7 that I can turn off all that eye candy to have the leanest running OS possible. When I got my first win7 machine it came running 121 task in the background YEKS. Consuming 1.6 gb of system ram. With a little work I shaved that down to 45 tasks saving 1gb of wasted ram not to mention the clock cycles on the processor.
Win8 new design is a reaction to the ipad plain and simple. Great I get MS needs to compete. But my desktop/laptop is not a ipad or phone. I don’t want a touch screen on my desktop/laptop. HP has a iMac form factor all in one desktop with touch screen. I’ve used it and found after 15 minuets I went back to the keyboard and mouse. Until they start selling Tony Stark workstations stop trying to replace the mouse and keyboard.
Go ahead and through in all the bells and whistles if you must but. PLEASE let me turn them off and get back to work. RANT OUT!
HAHA, I agree, it looks like the failed windows mobile OS!
Actually the first thing I thought was MS is simply pushing heavier with the Media Center front end, which for all intensive purposes in win7 can be removed if so desired, thankfully 🙂 For some reason I see win7 as being what XP was, I think it will be on most users machine until win9 or 10.
