Toonz 2D animation software goes open source

The 2D animation software developed by Rome-based Digital Video has been acquired by Japanese publisher Dwango, and will be released as open source on March 26. The OpenToonz version will include features developed by Studio Ghibli (Toonz Ghibli Edition), which has been a long time Toonz user. Through OpenToonz, Dwango will create a platform that will aim to have research labs and the animated film industry actively cooperating with each other. (more...)

Guillermo Leal’s SFMoma project

Mexican artist Guillermo Leal Llaguno has made available a personal project he has been working on for some time: a recreation of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art building, originally designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta. Guillermo used 3DS Max and Corona render for the project. Check out a virtual tour and a number of renders on the artist's website.

PhysX GRB and NVidia Flow

PhysXInfo takes a look at the latest technologies introduced for NVidia PhysX: PhysX-GRB, a new hybrid CPU/GPU physics pipeline that improves performance by a factor of up to 6X for moderate to heavy simulation loads, and NVidia Flow, a computational fluid dynamics algorithm that simulates and renders combustible fluids such as fire and smoke. Unlike previous methods, Flow isn't limited to simulation of the fluids inside a bounding box. More on PhysXInfo's website.
